Believe It

Lord willing, we close this week. We plan to stay at The Portage until spring, to save on winter utilities and the icy commute. Much as Brett would love a tractor/truck/plow/4WD vehicle for Christmas, buying a property is present enough for one year. One piece at a time, our dream is becoming a reality. I like having this space of time, a new season and year to prepare and process the surrealism of this crazy, amazing life.

The past week we’ve been reflecting on the year 2014 with all its ups and downs. God has met our every need, and even in the (as of yet) unanswered prayers His presence is with us. We keep waiting, abiding, believing. He has proven His faithfulness to us and now it is our turn to dedicate our days and desires for 2015 to Him.

Who could have foreseen that the year we turn 30 would be the year we get our Little House on the (Blooming) Prairie? Who can imagine where we will be in 10 years or 20? Every step over the last seven years has led up to this moment; even the past three and a half in our old brick house have been essential to forming our calling and purpose, which I would like to unfold more of in the year to come. Jesus said the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, and I want to unearth this treasure and share its wealth with every orphan, ragamuffin, and scapegrace.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
